RESTPM.EXE - Restore the Windows 3.1 (and maybe 3.0) Program Manager
If you like an un-cluttered desktop you probably use the Minimize on
Use option of the Program Manager. The only problem with this is after
the last task is finished the Program Manager remains an Icon! This seems
silly since generally the next task it to restore the Program Manager so
you can launch another task!
Well RESTPM (RESTore Program Manager) links its self to the Program
Manager and when the last application is done restores the Program
Manager to is original size.
When RESTPM links to the Program Manager it attaches two new menu options
to the Options menu (since this is where the Minimize on Use option is).
The first is the Remove RestPM which unlinks RESTPM from the Program
Manager. And the second is About RestPM which displays the normal About box.
To install RESTPM simply copy the RESTPM.EXE to the Windows directory (or
where ever you want) and use the File/New menu option to load it in the
currently selected Group window (I put it in the StartUp group so RESTPM
is automatically launched). Or edit your WIN.INI file and add RESTPM.EXE to
the LOAD= line (LOAD=C:\WINDOWS\RESTPM.EXE). Please see your Windows manual
for more information.
